Having a special needs child is not an easy road. Physically, mentally & emotionally, your life changes. Not only is your world turned upside down learning how to best care for your most precious gift, but now you have to figure out things you never thought you would have to – education, insurance, doctors, occupational therapy, behavior therapy…and forget it if they also need medical attention. Daily tasks such as going to a salon to get hair cuts sometimes become insurmountable because of the varying degrees of sensitivities and limitations that special needs children have.
Then there is insurance. In the past decade, insurance coverage has been at a rapid decline and covering much needed services for special needs families is becoming scarce. Families find themselves fighting for services that should be covered to help their child function daily.
Bottom line… parents, you must be experts in any and everything your child needs.
